Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports at the high school level and the competition for college lacrosse scholarships has become quite competitive.

There are now over 60 college lacrosse programs for men and 84 for women at the NCAA DI level alone. To understand just how competitive it is you only have to look at the statistics. There are 2,500 athletes playing college lacrosse and over 560,000 high school lacrosse players all with the dream of playing college lacrosse.

As part of your college lacrosse recruiting strategy you should take part in summer programs and leagues as well as college lacrosse camps to gain exposure. Coaches attend these games with the sole purpose of identifying potential recruits for their athletic programs.

Make sure you take the ACT and SAT entrance exams during your junior year. Take them a second time if your scores are low. You also must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center, do this before the end of your junior year.

Remember that lacrosse is a equivalency sport so a coach can divide the number of lacrosse scholarships between players, so a full-ride is the exception rather than the rule.

Lacrosse is also played as a club sport at many colleges often coexisting with the varsity team. It is not unknown for a club player to “walk-on” and eventually become a scholarship player.

Remember, your grades are important, without good grades you might not even get accepted to college let alone play on the lacrosse team.
