Improve your gymnastic skills at a college camp

For parents and gymnasts who are interested in a potential college athletic scholarship then attending a gymnastics camp at some of the universities that the gymnast is interested in attending is a good idea. This gives the athlete the opportunity to see if the facilities, campus and coaches are a good fit for the gymnast. A good strategy might be to attend three or four college summer gymnastics camps in the years before high school graduation that are athletic scholarship potentials.

As a bonus you get seen by the people that count, the college gymnastics coaches. Most summer camps cater for either girls or boys of different age groups and skill levels.

There are a large number of good gymnastics camps throughout the country that will help you improve your skills including, elite gymnastics clinics, gymnastics showcases, college gymnastics summer camps and summer gymnastics camps.

Most college camps provide technical instruction and video analysis from coaches and current student-athletes that come from from both the women’s and men’s gymnastics programs.

The top camps will have college coaches coming to watch you in action but make sure that you select a gymnastics camp that is organized by the colleges and the college coach. You will get to see what the coach is looking for and YOU WILL BE SEEN.

Gymnasts ask me all the time, “how can I get the college gymnastics coach or scout to watch me.”?

Well it’s a very simple answer, attend a summer sports camp at the college.

Front Handsprings:

You have to make sure that you hurdle and you need to reach far ahead of your feet as you are reaching the floor.
Start your block-push-off through your traps-shoulders early, before your legs hit vertical, so you float high. Beginners tend to push off far to late.
You need to forcefully stop the movement of your 1st leg when it reaches vertical after kicking up, this way you will transfer the legs momentum to your torso so that it rotates up.

Are you ready for the NEXT STEP!
