There are some top class field hockey summer camps available for girls throughout the USA with many covering all aspects of the game and others that specialize. E.G. Goalkeeping.

Most leading universities and colleges, including some junior colleges, run their own field hockey camps as well over the summer. These field hockey camps can provide you with very specific additional development and training and also get you noticed by the college hockey coaches.

Most summer camp programs are usually staffed by college and high school coaches and current college players.

Camps stress both team play and individual skills development and with every participant. You get tuition in the latest stick-work techniques, team defense and attack tactics, scoring and shooting drills, goalkeeper training as well as participating in small sided games and full field play. Some camps offer specialized coaching in offensive and defensive corners.

Depending on your goals and ability you can select from elite field hockey clinics, field hockey instruction camps, field hockey showcases, college field hockey summer camps, university field hockey prospect camps and summer field hockey camps.

Some of these camps will have college coaches attending to watch young field hockey players in action but nothing beats attending a field hockey camp that is organized by the college and the college coach.

If you do decide to attend an elite showcase or camp then you should ask for the names of the college coaches who will be there to watch you play.
I get asked by athletes all the time, “how can I get a field hockey coach or scout come to watch me play”?

Well it’s a very simple answer, take part in a college sports camp.

Aways remember that field hockey is a game of possession, tackling and elimination.

there are simple aspects of the game you need top concentrate on;

  • Possession skills: be able to maintain possession both individually and in pairs.
  • Tackling skills: don’t rush in – hold the stick in the left hand and back up until an opportunity arises.
  • Push your opponent to the sides.
  • Elimination skills: be able to take on an opponent one-on-one.

Are you ready for the NEXT STEP!
