About Asbury University
Directed towards academic and spiritual goals, Asbury University promotes its campus, located southwest of Lexington, in Wilmore, Kentucky, as a center for students to excel in academics and obtain a degree and at the same time worship together as part of a spiritual movement. Asbury offers degrees in Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and Master of Social Work. As part of the curriculum in almost every major, students have the opportunity to participate in internships, exchange programs, mission and community service. The school is accredited by the Commission of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Kentucky Department of Education and others.
Athletics Department of Asbury University
The athletics department of Asbury University paves the way for students, faculty and staff of the school and the community to achieve a better physical well-being. To achieve its goal Asbury emphasizes building and renovating facilities in their programs that is centered on an athletic complex that covers George E. Luce Physical Activities Center and surrounding areas that host outdoor sports. Luce Center has multiple basketball and volleyball courts, four racquetball courts, an indoor running track, a swimming pool with eight lanes, a weight room, an auxiliary gymnasium, locker rooms and modern athletic training facilities. A fitness and health center is maintained, which also benefits the community as they are open not only for the university. These facilities are not exclusive to student-athletes alone as they are also offered to non-varsity players who are active in intramural sports and fun game activities.
Athletic Programs of Asbury University
The formation of a several competitive intercollegiate sports team completes the athletic programs of Asbury University. The varsity teams include men’s baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse , soccer, swimming and tennis while, women’s sports consist of basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
The student athletes are fierce competitors in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) and the Appalachian Swimming Conference (ASC)’ Asbury is able to build strong teams through an effective recruitment and training programs. Head coaches, who plan the over-all and long term direction of the team, are hired for their high qualifications and excellent track record.
OFFICIAL SPORTS TEAM: Asbury University Eagles
The Asbury University Eagles are the official representatives to intercollegiate sports competition. Student –athletes are encouraged and required to do well in both athletics and academics. The university has a rich history of athletic achievements that they started the Hall of Fame recognition in 2004 and the program is hugely appreciated by members of the school.
Guide to Athletic Scholarships at Asbury University
Asbury University is a generous provider of scholarships, grants and loans to help determined students fulfill their lifelong dream of earning a college degree. The athletic scholarships awards granted to outstanding athletes and athletically talented students who were accepted as new varsity team members, vary depending on numerous factors. Head coaches and the athletic director select and recommend qualified scholars who must also meet regular admission standards and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) requirements. A minimum cumulative GPA required for graduation, minimum 24 credits passed per year, and an updated recommendation from the coach and director are needed to maintain the scholarship. Other types of scholarships include academic, theater, international student, business, music, multi-cultural, out of state, Christian ministry, organization, private individuals and many others.
