You need to be in the top 5%, or are a blue chip player to be actively recruited by NCAA schools. Junior college is a real alternative that can get you exposure and credits towards a degree at a 4 year college.

If you want to be recruited, especially at community college level, you have to make it happen. You have to contact the college basketball coaches and let them know who you are and what you have to offer their basketball program.

The NCAA has estimated that the probability of competing in athletics at the college level are not great. According to the NCAA, high school men’s basketball has close to 500,000 players; 157,000 are seniors. There are approximately 4,500 freshman positions available. This means that approximately 3% of high school senior basketball players will play NCAA sponsored basketball.

Don’t be put off by these figures. What hasn’t been taken into account is that a large percentage of high school graduates will not attend college.

Junior college basketball is a real alternative and if you are good enough can lead to an NCAA scholarship.

JUCO Basketball is played in all three divisions but athletic scholarships are only offered at division 1 and 2 level.

The NJCAA allows 16 scholarships per school. That’s 16 for men as well as 16 for women. These are full-ride but individual schools can offer partial grants in aid. Top players tend to receive the best offers. There are 209 division 1 and 123 division 2 colleges that offer basketball scholarships for men. For women’s basketball there are 181 division 1 and 126 division 2 colleges. Each school can only offer 16 scholarships in total, unlike the NCAA they cannot offer a larger number of at a lower percentage.

Community college coaches do not have the big athletic budgets that NCAA coaches have so they cant actively recruit or hire scouts. Many JC coaches don’t allocate all of their recruiting budget each year simply because they were not approached by suitable athletes. We will prepare a detailed athletic resume on your behalf and have it addressed and delivered to the head basketball coach at every junior college in the country giving you the best possible chance of being recruited.
