Brandeis University, founded in 1948, is a private research university in Waltham, Massachusetts near Boston. It has a student body of approximately 5,800 undergraduate and graduate students with a student to faculty ratio of 10:1. Schools and colleges at Brandeis include the Undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences, the Brandeis International Business School, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, and the Rabb School of Continuing Studies Graduate Programs. Athletics Department at Brandeis University

The athletics department at Brandeis University offers sports programs in all three categories: varsity, intramural and club sports. With excellent support services for all student-athletes, the athletics department is committed to seeing them succeed in both sports and academics.

The main athletic center at Brandeis is the on-campus Gosman Sports and Recreation Center, which was opened in 1991. It includes both indoor and outdoor facilities and can accommodate all of the varsity sports offered by the department. The center has hosted the NCAA championships four times and has also served as the Boston Celtics practice facility.

Athletic Programs at Brandeis University

Brandeis University has 19 intercollegiate varsity sports: men’s baseball, basketball, cross country, fencing, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, and track and field, as well as women’s basketball, cross country, fencing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. There are also 15 intramural sports offered such as table tennis, home run derby, innertube water polo, flag football and more. Moreover, 19 unique club sports such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, sailing, archery and skiing are available for interested students. There are also private swimming lessons offered at the aquatics center.

Official Sports Team: The Judges

The Brandeis Judges are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and participates in the Eastern College Athletic Conference. The Judges also compete in the University Athletic Association Conference against some of the most successful student-athletes in the country. The Judges have won NCAA team championships in a number of sports, including men’s soccer and men’s cross country. The team also holds 24 individual titles.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships for Brandeis University

Brandeis University offers extensive scholarship opportunities for students who both demonstrate financial need and academic excellence. To qualify, students must submit an application to the College Board. All merit scholarships are offered for incoming freshmen, with the exception of the Brandeis Achievement Award. The merit scholarships include the Brandeis-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship, the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, the Stroum Family Waltham Scholarship, and the Fannie Penikoff Scholarship.

Need-based scholarships for international students help students from around the world study at Brandeis. These scholarships include the Wien International Scholarship Program, Alumni and Friends Scholarships, the Davis United World College Scholars Program, the Sylvia and Joseph Slifka Israeli Coexistence Scholarship and the Malkin Israeli Endowed Scholarship. These scholarships help promote diversity and international understanding of the Brandeis University campus.
