Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) is a private school offering liberal arts and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. BSC was founded in 1856 and is located in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. This 192 acre campus serves more than 1,300 students. The school is recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The student-faculty ratio is 13:1.

BSc provides bachelor’s degree courses in 50 programs. They also offer special programs of study, such as the Donald Harrison Honors Program; Contract Learning; Entrepreneurship program; International program; leadership studies; Norton Board; Service learning and the Vail fellowship.

Athletics Department of Birmingham-Southern College

The provision of athletic facilities is one of the tasks of the athletics department. The Striplin Fitness & Recreation center are a venue for recreation which consists of basketball courts, racquetball courts, indoor jogging path, swimming pool, Cardio workout rooms and the strength and conditioning rooms. The Panther Stadium is home to the football team and became a venue for competitions. The stadium features the coaches’ offices, press box, meeting rooms, athletic training rooms, locker rooms and the dressing rooms. The Athletic Department sponsors 22 sports. The Athletic Department also provides complete medical services before, during and after every game, ensuring the health and well being of each athlete.

Athletic Programs of Birmingham-Southern College

There are more than 80 student interest groupings. These groups consist of the Allies, Art Student League, Black Student Union, fishing team; Pantherettes dance teams, Ultimate Frisbee, multicultural awareness group, student government, and Wesley fellowship. Fraternities and sororities are widely present, which are responsible for the organization of social events.

The intercollegiate teams were originally members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Intramural sports are also part of the college life at BCS because it promotes not only sportsmanship but also teamwork and leadership. Intramural sports include flag football, soccer, volleyball, innertube water polo, basketball, dodge ball, kickball, softball and ultimate frisbee.

OFFICIAL SPORTS TEAM: BSC Panthers

The Panthers are the official representative of Birmingham-Southern College in all intercollegiate sports competitions. The official school colors are black and gold. The Panthers are affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III participating in the Southern Athletic Association. Men’s sports include basketball, swimming, track & field, baseball, tennis, cross country, soccer, football, lacrosse, and golf. Basketball, cross country, swimming, volleyball, lacrosse, golf, track & field, softball, tennis and soccer play by the women’s team. Cheerleading is also part of the intercollegiate sports activity.

At Birmingham-Southern College, 90% of their student is granted some form of financial assistance. BSC offers different type of financial program designed to assist students to continue with their college education despite financial hindrances. Federal Aid, State Aid, BSC Grants, Merit-based aid, and loans are available.

Since BSC is an NCAA Division III member, athletes are not eligible for athletic related scholarships based on the NCAA rules.
