Benedictine University Springfield, founded in 1929 by the Ursuline Sisters, is a liberal arts post-secondary educational institution located in Springfield, Illinois. The university is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. The university offers associate, bachelor and master degree programs. Undergraduate programs are offered in areas of study such as health sciences, elementary education, business and economics, nursing, psychology, and more. Graduate degree programs are offered in education, public health, business administration, and management and organizational behavior. The university also offers one doctoral degree in organizational management. Benedictine University Springfield has a student body of just more than 1,000.

The Athletics Department at Benedictine University Springfield offers varsity sports to interested student-athletes who want to enhance their college experience with sports and an opportunity to gain new, invaluable skills. In addition to varsity sports, athletic training and academic support services are also offered to student-athletes.

Athletic facilities include playing fields, an outdoor track, as well as a gymnasium for basketball and baseball.

Athletic Programs at Benedictine University Springfield

The Athletics Department offers varsity sports in men’s basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, cross country and distance track, and cheerleading, as well as women’s softball, basketball, golf, soccer, volleyball, cross country and distance track, and cheerleading. In addition, intramural sports are open to students, staff and faculty. Sports include basketball, table tennis, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, badminton, flag football and more. Intramural sports are offered on a seasonal basis. There is also an on-campus fitness center that offers exercise programs in yoga, Pilates, and Zumba.

The Benedictine Bulldogs are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and compete in the American Midwest Conference. The Benedictine Bulldogs are passionate about the game, but are also dedicated to their academic study. Student-athletes create a balance between both athletics and academics and exceed equally in both.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships at Benedictine University Springfield

Benedictine University Springfield offers both need-based and merit scholarships. To be eligible for need-based scholarships, all students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. Merit scholarships offered through the university are for either freshmen or transfer students. Scholarships at freshmen include the Trustee Award, the Presidential Award, the St. Benedict Award, the Springfield Award, the Alumni Recognition Award, the Catholic High School Award, the Opportunity Award, and the Sagamon County Award. These scholarships range in value from $500 to full tuition and require students to be enrolled as full-time students. There are also 8 scholarships for transfer students ranging in value from $500 to $7,000. Athletic scholarships with varying amounts are available for students who participate in varsity sports and demonstrate outstanding athletic ability. These scholarships are determined by coaches and athletic staff.
