Barton County Community College Athletic Scholarships

Barton County Community College is a 2-year comprehensive post-secondary educational institution located in Great Bend, Kansas. The college offers certificate and associate degree programs in agriculture, automotive technology, business, computer and information technology, early childhood education, education, fine arts, general studies, health professions, human and social sciences, physical education and recreation, military studies, pre-professional, science and math, and public safety. There are also GED and ESL programs, as was an online study options. Associate degrees at BCCC are transferable to 4-year colleges and universities in Kansas, allowing students to pursue careers in nursing, economics, accounting, dietetics and more.

The athletics department at Barton County Community College seeks to enhance the college experience of all student-athletes in both athletics and academics by providing support services such as sports medicine, athletic training and academic support.

Athletic facilities at Barton County Community College include the Gymnasium and Fleske Court for basketball and volleyball, the Lawson-Biggs Field for baseball, the Cougar Soccer and Track Complex, and the Cougar Field for softball.

The athletics department offers varsity sports teams for both men and women. Men’s sports include baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, basketball, tennis and track and field, while women’s sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, golf, softball, track and field, tennis and volleyball. There are no intramural or club sports offered at Barton County Community College.

Official Sports Team: Cougars

The Barton Cougars are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I and competes in the Jayhawk West Conference. The Cougar teams are supported by a cheer and dance team. The Barton Cougars have won a total of 55 national championships in a number of varsity sports.

Guide to Athletic Scholarships for Barton County Community College

Barton County Community College offers many different kinds of scholarships for incoming freshmen and continuing students. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, athletic performance, or extracurricular activity involvement. Academic scholarships include the Excellence Award of $1,000, the Honor Award of $800, the Achievement Award of $500, and the Merit Award of $250. Only full time students and first-time enrollees may qualify for these scholarships given that they have good high school GPAs. There are also scholarships for students who excel in areas such as cheerleading, automotive, business, band, graphic design and more.

Athletic scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who have a GPA of 3.5 upon high school graduation. This GPA must be maintained in order to continue receiving the scholarship. Athletic scholarships are awarded as an addition to an academic scholarship. Scholarships are available for 9 varsity sports, and their values are all determined by the athletic coaches and staff.
