Bard College, founded in 1860, is located in Annandale-on-Hudson in New York State, near Red Hook town. Bard is a private liberal arts college offering over 40 degree programs in Arts, Languages and Literature; Science, Mathematics, and Computing; and Social Studies. The Bard College curriculum includes core subjects, as well as subjects from interdisciplinary and individualized programs. Bard College also offers more than 20 master’s degree programs in the arts and sciences. The average class size at Bard College is only 14 students, and the student to faculty ratio is 1:10. Intramural sports are also offered for students who wish to play team sports in a less demanding and less competitive environment. Intramural sports include basketball, floor hockey, bowling, golf, badminton, and more. Club sports are also offered on campus as recreational activities and include men’s and women’s rugby, fencing, equestrian, and men’s and women’s ultimate Frisbee. Instructional fitness classes in aqua aerobics, yoga, Zumba, Pilates, karate and more are also options for students who wish to stay fit while not participating in team sports.

The Bard Raptors are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division III and compete in the Liberty League, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and the United Volleyball Conference. The Bard Raptors’ most popular and successful team is the rugby team, which has won a number of championships.

Bard College offers a number of scholarship opportunities for incoming freshmen, transfer and continuing students, as well as out-of-state and international students. About two-thirds of students studying at Bard College receive some kind of financial aid, many of which are from private scholarship programs or state or federal student aid grants. The average scholarship from Bard College is valued at $29,808. Available scholarships are both need-based and merit-based. All scholarships are renewable for up to four years as long as the requirements are continuously met. Scholarships range in value from $5,000 to $35,000 for full-time students, all of whom are automatically considered based upon their admissions package. There are also 5 scholarship programs for recent immigrants, foreign language and immersion programs, as well as department scholarships for science and economics.
