The University of Illinois at Springfield is one of 3 campuses of the University of Illinois. The University provides an intellectually rich, collaborative, and intimate learning experience for students, faculty, and staff, while serving local, regional, state, national, and international communities.

  • Location: Southeast side of Springfield, Ill., near Lake Springfield. About Two-Hundred miles southwest of Chicago and One-Hundred miles northeast of St. Louis.
  • History: The University was established in 1969 as Sangamon State University by the Illinois General Assembly. On July 1, 1995 it became a campus of the University of Illinois, thereafter known as the University of Illinois at Springfield.
  • Campus: 746 acres.
