Improved sexual function with testosterone gel
increased hormone levels A study that compared Testim gel to testosterone patches indicates that higher levels of testosterone absorption occurs with gel and corresponding benefits in improved sexual function, mood and other areas.
Hypogonadal men who were treated with Testim(TM), a new 1% testosterone gel marketed by Auxilium, showed better and more consistent improvements in sexual function, mood and other symptoms when compared to those treated with the transdermal testosterone replacement patch Andropatch(R), according to the findings of a recent study of more than Two Hundred men with low levels of testosterone. The results of the study were presented to the annual meeting of the European Association of Urology in Madrid and are reported in the January 2003 issue of the British Journal of Urology, International. Impact on mood and sexual function Patients treated with Testim also showed significant improvement in mood and decreases in negative mood. They also showed significant increases in positive mood at Thirty and Ninety days, while patients treated with Andropatch showed no significant changes in mood at any stage of treatment. |

Patients treated with Testim had greater increases in testosterone levels than those treated with Andropatch. They also showed significantly improved sexual activity, motivation, desire and spontaneous erections. Those treated with Andropatch showed significant improvement in sexual activity and desire, inconsistent improvement in sexual motivation, and no improvement in spontaneous erections.
"The results of this study show that greater absorption of testosterone with Testim(TM) than with a transdermal patch application.
The study showed patients treated with the gel absorbed more testosterone, with a corresponding improvement in sexual function and mood," said Gerri Henwood, president and CEO of Auxilium. "The results also indicate that Testim is a well tolerated and effective treatment for men with low testosterone levels and the associated symptoms of hypogonadism."
Recent studies suggest that steroid abuse among teenagers is on the rise. The study indicates that students at the 8th grade level (and even younger) are beginning to experiment with steroids with little understanding of their potential deadly side effects.
