Kim Clijsters was stunned by
American veteran Jill Craybas at the Nasdaq-100 Open on Saturday.
Playing for the 1st time since February 19, Clijsters said
she felt rusty, and it showed Saturday at the Nasdaq-100 Open.
Clijsters, seeded second, double-faulted 11 times and
committed 78 unforced errors. "I was the one making the mistakes," said
Clijsters, who has battled hip and ankle injuries. "I was just trying to do
a little too much."
Craybas, ranked 54th, overcame deficits of 5-3 in the 1st
set and 4-2 in the 3rd. The number 2 seed from Belgium lost 7-5 3-6 7-5 in
the 2nd round.
Clijsters, who received a 1st round bye, was playing for
the 1st time since losing in the final to Amelie Mauresmo in Antwerp last
month.
The Belgian, who was overtaken by Mauresmo for the top
spot in the world rankings on Monday, had sprained her right ankle in the
Australian Open final against the Frenchwoman in Jan. and was probably still
carrying that injury.
