EVEN GREAT ATHLETES FAIL AT SOME POINT

LEARN TO DEAL WITH FAILURE LEARN AND MOVE ON

If you want to be good at something, if you want to be the best then you need to be prepared to deal with losing.

Failure or losing never seems to come when you expect it. No athlete sets out to fail, we plan to succeed.

The setbacks can come in many forms; mistakes in the game, lost games, an referee's call, injury, personal problems, not making a team to name a few.

It does not matter how much talent you have or how hard you work you cant get away from the fact that you're going to get lose every now and then. The ball isn't always going to bounce your way.

You can do everything right and still lose. You can be at your very best and and still fall short of your goals.

life is not fair. It never has been and it never will be and sport is no exception.

Tips to help you use failure to your advantage:

  1. You need to acknowledge the reality of losing but don't dwell on it. It has happened now move on.

  2. Yes the disappointment hurt but it is a temporary thing. It hurts because it is an important part of your life. The pain is like a wave: it rolls in, crests and rolls back out. Find the courage that lies within you to ride the wave, since everything about emotion is temporary. You will survive.

  3. Don't blame yourself, blaming yourself is a thought process that will eat away at your self-confidence.

  1. Success does not protect you from life's setbacks. Don't think that it wont happen to you.

  2. You need to surround yourself with people who believe in you and your ability not people who talk you down.

Study after study has shown that physical activity mitigates the loss of muscle strength and endurance, indicating that if older adults focus energy on muscular, skeletal, balance and mobility training, they will maintain a functionally superior quality of life well into old age.

National YMCA experts recommend that winter is the time to enroll in strength training programs at your local YMCA.
