The Football World Cup, or to use it's official name, The FIFA World
Cup, or Soccer World Cup is usually referred to simply as the World Cup.
It is a international soccer competition between member teams of the
Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The World
Cup is the biggest soccer tournament on Earth. the cup finals are held
every four years in a different country. Billions of people watch the
games on TV as the national teams from countries around the world play
for the coveted title of World champion.
The first world cup was held in 1930 and this was the only time
that qualifying rounds were not played.. The European teams that
played were Yugoslavia, France, Belgium and Romania. A large number of European teams
refused to travel the distance to Uruguay.
There were a total of thirteen teams in the first world cup. The
remaining countries besides the host Uruguay were
Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Mexico, and the
United States
In 2010 South Africa will host the Fifa Football World Cup,
from the 11th June 2010 to the 11th July 2010.This is
the first time the world's premier sporting event will be held on
African soil.
The modern history
of the game of football covers a period of almost One-hundred and
fifty years. It all began in 1863 in England, when rugby and association
football branched off on their different courses and the world's 1st
football association was born - The Football Association in England.

when soccer originated but we do know that the earlier variations of what
later became known soccer were played almost three thousand years ago.

indoor soccer was devised in
Montevideo, Uruguay in 1930 for use in YMCA programs. The 1st
international competition took place in 1965, when Paraguay won the 1st
South American Cup. 6 more South American Cup competitions were held
between 1965 and 1979.
