The USA has more registered soccer players than any other country in the world - close to 18 million.

78% of United States soccer players are under the age of 18.

During the 1990's soccer was the fastest growing high school and college sport.

The United States hosted the 1994 soccer world cup and 1996 saw the formation of the United States Major League Soccer.

The World Cup is the biggest soccer tournament in the world and is held every four years in a different host country.

The first United States women's College Soccer championship was held in 1982. The University of North Carolina has won the championship sixteen times.

Soccer is different from rugby and American football because it is illegal to use your hands except for the goalkeeper.

Soccer is referred to as " football" just about everywhere except for the USA, Canada and Australia.

The game of indoor soccer was devised in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1930 for use in YMCA programs. The 1st international competition took place in 1965, when Paraguay won the 1st South American Cup. 6 more South American Cup competitions were held between 1965 and 1979.
