Shawnee State University - is the state regional university for Southern Ohio. Shawnee State University is committed to providing higher education that encourages competence in written and oral communication, scientific and quantitative reasoning, and critical logical/analytical thinking.

The Institution provides opportunities for continuing personal and professional development, intellectual discovery, and appreciation for the performing and creative arts.

the University offers over than eighty bachelor’s and associate degree programs in areas such as mathematical sciences, arts and humanities, teacher education, business administration, natural sciences, social sciences, industrial and engineering technologies and health sciences. Tuition costs are the lowest among Ohio public universities. Enrollment at Ohio’s newest 4 year university is approximately 3,500.

Shawnee State is the only public university in Ohio located on the banks of the Ohio River, the College is situated on a  beautifully-landscaped Fifty two acre campus comprising  twenty-One buildings including the Advanced Technology Center that features one of only fifty Digistar II planetariums in the world.

     The university also has a 3 story library featuring computers, Internet access, and 1000's of books, videocassettes, CDs, government documents, and periodicals; the 102,000 square foot Vern Riffe Center for the Arts featuring a 1,139 seat Main Theater; the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center that has weight rooms, gymnasium, racquetball courts, a dance classroom, and a junior Olympic-size swimming pool; and the Children’s Learning Center, a facility that serves as a learning center for the children of students, staff, faculty, community members and a lab school for teacher education students at Shawnee State.

SHAWNEE STATE UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS PROGRAM

The College has a long tradition of success in athletics. The School is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Shawnee state has taken part in Twenty-Four National Championships in six of eleven sponsored sports.

The SSU women’s basketball team won the NAIA Division II National Championship on March 16, 1999. The University has been a member of the American Mideast Conference since 1991, formerly the Mid-Ohio Conference, the Shawnee State Bears have won Seventeen championships.
