Seton Hill officially became a university on July 1, 2002. The move from College to University status is the culmination of more than ten years of embracing change, expansion, and growth. The change to university status reflects the continuous improvement in the quality, depth and  breadth of Seton Hill’s academic program. 

Seton Hill is a small university with a emphasis on teaching. The student to faculty ratio of 15:1.

Seton Hill is a Catholic school steeped in Judeo-Christian values and was founded by The Sisters of Charity in 1883.  While approximately Fifty percent of Seton Hill students are Catholic, the Seton Hill community welcomes and respects the faith traditions of all students and provides faith-sharing opportunities as learning experiences in addition to liturgical celebrations.

Seton Hill University offers Eighteen varsity sports for men and women. Sports available include football, cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis and equestrian teams.

    The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Seton Hill University assumed membership in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) on July 1.

Each school will begin playing league schedules during the 2007-08 academic year. However,  athletes from both colleges will be eligible for individual conference honors during the upcoming season. The Pennsylvania-based schools are the 1st WVIAC members from outside of West Virginia since Morehead State left the league in 1933. The WVIAC will be the the largest conference in the NCAA Division II ranks with Sixteen members in 2006-07.

Harris said that the best analog on Earth for Mars is in Antarctica, "the coldest and most inaccessible place on this planet." She took the spring semester off from the university this year to conduct research on the polar ice cap, delaying her graduation from last May until next month.
