APPLYING FOR A COLLEGE SCHOLARTSHIP
Plan ahead. do your research.
It is essential to your success to do your research and planning as early as possible.
Most universities and colleges require that your
admissions application should be completed by September or October of your
senior high school year.
Your research into the admissions and athletic recruiting process needs to begin
way before that. You should start looking into things at the start of your
junior year thus giving yourself plenty of time to narrow down your list of
preferred colleges.
Start by searching for colleges on the Internet for colleges that match your criteria: by major, sport, location etc. Every college has a Website; use it to get the information that you need.
Spend time at your high school guidance counselor’s office. You’ll find pamphlets, brochures, college reference books and lots more to help you with your research.
Some other good sources of information are college fairs. If your school won’t be holding one in the near future, ask your guidance counselor where to find one.
You’ll be collecting a lot of information. It can all get a little confusing really quickly. Keep a good filing system as well as detailed notes about the schools that you are interested in. Probably the most important piece of information that you need to keep track of is admissions deadlines. Admission deadlines vary from one college to the next, and you certainly don’t want to miss one that you’re really interested in!
