Altitude training is not a gimmick, it works and has a profound effect on athletic performance. Elite athletes use the low-oxygen (hypoxic) conditions that are found at high altitude as a training tool to boost their oxygen uptake and delivery (VO2 Max).

Gym Weight Training Strength training involves training both the the muscles and nervous system together. This is called the neuromuscular system. Having big muscles does not guarantee that you will be any stronger than a person with smaller muscles who trains mainly for strength. It all depends on how you train and your genetic makeup.

Marathon Mental Preparation. As the Boston Marathon quickly approaches, both marathoners and coaches agree that mental preparation can make or break a runner’s performance on the big day.

Adam Naylor, Ed.D., sport psychology coach and coordinator of the Athletic Enhancement Center (AEC) at Boston University states that it is essential for runners to train their mind as well as their body to be completely ready for the race.

The basic key to running a good marathon is all about the long run on the weekend. Lets assume that you can run a 10K in an hour or less without too much of a problem, then you need to just start adding 1-2 Ks every other weekend to make it your long run. In other words, you start by running six miles. Then 2 weeks later you run seven or eight miles, then 2 weeks later nine miles and so on. The last 1-2 miles of your long run will always be hard.
