TOP ATHLETES TAKE RISKS

DO WHAT'S DIFFICULT DO THE HARD STUFF

Why are some individual athletes just so much better than others? Why is it that a few athletes become really good at their chosen sport while the rest of us seem to plateau at the adequate stage?

Obviously there are a lot of reasons why this happens, some of which, like muscle type and height  for example, are not within your control. There are things which you can do to become a better athlete.

Top athletes reached the level where they are now because when they were younger they understood the importance of things like practice. And, they recognized that it is not just being at practice, but working hard throughout all aspects of every practice. But beyond working hard, these athletes also were, and probably still are, risk takers. What are risk takers? Well, we are not talking about the X Games, or bungee jumping, or hang gliding. Risk takers are athletes who are constantly looking for ways to be better at their sport.

They are never complacent with their current level of skill performance. They are risk takers because they are willing to make mistakes as they try a more difficult way of doing a particular skill. They set challenging goals for themselves even though progress towards achieving these goals usually results in temporary decreases in overall performance effectiveness. Risk takers have to be strong enough mentally to work through these temporary set-backs and do so because they know that, in the end, they will become better athletes.

Many believe that freckles just appear in children naturally. But in fact, Voorhees says, the majority of freckles, if not all, are sure signs of sun damage. "When you see that occurring in a child, of course, it's too late for those spots, but certainly that person needs tremendous sun protection."
