YOU CAN HAVE A CAREER IN SPORTS. MAYBE NOT ON THE PLAYING FIELD. YOU NEED TO THINK OUTSIDE THE SQUARE

The number of college athletes who make their sport their career, in other words, make it to the pros, is extremely small. Your chances of making big bucks in the sports spotlight are not great.

You may not be a starting forward for the Philadelphia 76’ers or a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Bucs, but if you want to stay "connected" to sports in your career, think outside the "game box."

There are all kinds of careers that are connected to sports, but they require a degree in a related field.

There are numerous careers just in the area of college athletics. For example, you could coach the sport you love, work in facilities management (those stadiums don’t take care of themselves), equipment management, compliance coordinator, player recruitment and in the sports information office.

There are coaching and training opportunities at the high school level as well.

If you have an interest in the health and fitness areas of sports you could pursue work as an exercise physiologist, physical therapist, nutritionist, personal trainer or fitness center management.

There are careers in local and state government that relate to recreation. There are opportunities in non-profit associations, such as membership coordinator, communications, meeting and planning positions and even executive directors positions.

Law and financial planning can be avenues to stay connected to sports and athletes. Athletes need lawyers to represent them in salary negotiations and they need financial experts to help them invest their earnings in opportunities that will provide income after their playing days are over.

If you have an interest in the media, there are opportunities to establish yourself as an expert on a sport and work in the broadcasting field. Just because your playing days may be over after college doesn’t mean you have to make a clean break from sports; just think outside the "game box."

Learn the techniques and principles of exercise, then practice for mastery. Watch a fitness professional demonstrate the technique or machine, then work on it while he/she watches you and comments on body alignment, breathing, and other principles. Self-efficacy will build as you practice performing the exercise correctly.

Controversy continues to swirl around the facts and assumptions about creatine. What is creatine? What part does it play in conditioning and strength training? Are some, any or all of the claims made on its behalf true, partly true, or altogether false?

The external nasal dilator works by increasing the area of the nasal passages, therefore decreasing resistance to airflow during nasal breathing. It does not alter the resistive components of the total work of breathing by the respiratory muscles, so there is no mechanism to redirect energy to the locomotor muscles and increase performance.

The researchers have pinpointed two mechanisms by which alcohol helps reduce the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD).
