The off-season is probably the best time to work on improving your strength and power. Keep in mind that there is no substitute for hard work, so don't be tempted to experiment with performance enhancing drugs. Anabolic steroids have received a lot of media attention over the past decade, and for good reason. They can increase your body size and improve your strength, but at a tremendous cost. Anabolic steroids are not only illegal but are also unsafe for your health. According to Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, "the will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital." The good news is it's easier to stay in shape than it is to get in shape. So don't become too much of a couch potato in your off-season and good luck when you show up for pre-season workouts running circles around your teammates.
