The National Collegiate Athletic Association, ( NCAA ), allows each division
I
skiing program 7 scholarships for women and 6.3 for men. In division
II
the ratio is 6.3 scholarships for women and 6.3 for men.The NCAA
gave it's approval to the first
national collegiate skiing championship in 1954. this trial was a great
success,
and the championship became a annual event in 1955.
Women's skiing was added to the
list of NCAA sanctioned sports in
1983. While women compete against one another in their own events, there is
a single team championship, as in fencing, based on combined women's and men's results.
