The National Collegiate Athletic association, ( NCAA
), allows each Division I college fencing program 5
scholarships for women and 4.5 for men. In division II the ratio is 4.5
scholarships for women and also 4.5 for men.
Fencing was included NCAA championship sport in 1941. As
well as individual championships for men in
epee, foils and sabre, there were also team weapons championships.
Since 1990, there has been a single college fencing
championship meet, with the NCAA team championship based on combined women's
and men's events. Women's epee was included in the championship in 1995 and the women's saber
was also included in the championship in 2000.
