There are 309 division I and 218 division II NCAA schools that grant college cross country scholarships for men. That's a total of 6,668.01 cross country scholarships in the NCAA alone. For women's cross-country the total number of scholarships offered is 8,901.

The NCAA allows each division I cross country / track and field program 18 scholarships for women and 12.69 scholarships for men. In division II the ratio is 12.6 scholarships for men and 12.6 for women.

You should be aware that the above figures also include, in most cases, track and field scholarships; both indoor and outdoor

Scholarships are also available at NAIA and NJCAA colleges. Refer to our track and field pages for details.

If you are serious about trying out for college cross country then you should consider attending a college track / cross country camp. Most of the best colleges and universities hold their own camps as well over the summer. These track and field camps  will provide you with very specific extra training and development and also get you noticed by the college coaches.

One of the first things you need to get done if you want to be in line for a college cross country-track scholarship is to register and be certified by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse.
