NCAA ATHLETIC CONFERENCES
SOUTHERN COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) was formed with the aim of fostering an athletic association through which the member schools can encourage organized competition in college athletics.
SCAC was formed on September 1, 1962 and was originally called the College Athletic Conference (CAC). Centre College of Danville, The University of the South of Sewanee, Tennessee; Kentucky; Southwestern at Memphis (Tennessee) (now known as Rhodes College) and Washington and Lee University of Lexington, Virginia, were the 4 founding member schools of the conference. Later that year Washington University of St. Louis, Missouri, joined CAC as the 5th member institution.
SCAC sponsors sports championships in nineteen sports, this includes 10 for women and 9 for men. Currently the conference hosts championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s outdoor track and women’s volleyball.http://www.scacsports.com/

Member institutions of the conference are committed to sponsoring a variety of varsity sports to maximize opportunities for student-athlete participation. SCAC colleges also operate under the principle that taking part in sports competition should be solely because of student interest and enjoyment of sport, and that no financial aid or scholarships will be given to any student because of athletic ability or participation in intercollegiate sports.
