NCAA ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, (NCAA), is based on the east coast of the United States and was Founded in 1953 with seven charter members: Duke, Clemson, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina State, North Carolina and Wake Forest. There are now 12 Universities as members of the conference who compete in 20 sports in Division I. The University of Virginia joined the conference in 1953. The University of South Carolina left the conference in 1971. Florida State University joined the ACC in 1991. The University of Miami and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University became members in 2004. Boston College became the last institution to become a member of the conference in 2005.
