NCAA ATHLETIC CONFERENCES

AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE

 

The conference began in 1979 as a men’s only basketball conference. America East has now became one of the most comprehensive National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I conferences that has a commitment to broad-based, competitive athletics programs that complement academic achievement.

The America East Conference is comprised of member institutions that are mainly situated in the northeastern United States. It was known as the ECAC North from 1979 to 1988 and then named the North Atlantic Conference from the fall semester of 1988 to the end of the spring 1996

The nine colleges that make up the conference are" University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), University at Albany, University of Hartford, Binghamton University, University of New Hampshire, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of Maine, Stony Brook University, and University of Vermont; All these institutions offer wonderful learning environments combined with athletic tradition.

    America East recognizes champions in each of its Twenty two sports: men's and women's basketball, field hockey, baseball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's outdoor track and field, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's swimming and diving and volleyball.

The first references to the game of checkers are found as early as 1600 B.C. in Egyptian inscriptions and paintings. In England, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand the game is called draughts.

They found that both patterns of brisk walking lead to a decrease in diastolic blood pressure. Significant reductions in feelings of tension and anxiety were found with brisk walking of both patterns. Maximal oxygen uptake increased more with short bouts than with long, however.
