NCAA ATHLETIC CONFERENCES
CENTRAL COLLEGIATE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
The Central Collegiate Hockey Association, (CCHA), is a division I hockey only conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Member schools are mainly situated in Michigan and Ohio and also in Alaska, Indiana and Nebraska. The conference holds it’s championship tournament at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
The conference accounted for seventeen of the sixty four NCAA Frozen Four participants from 1992-2007. Eight separate CCHA teams took part in the NCAA Tournament in the 1990s: Michigan State, Northern Michigan, Bowling Green, Lake Superior, Nebraska-Omaha, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and Western Michigan. Ferris State, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
The twelve current conference teams have won nine of the last twenty four NCAA Championships: Bowling Green (1984), Michigan State (1986, 2007), Lake Superior (1988, 1992, 1994), Northern Michigan (1991) and Michigan (1996, 1998).

The game is very popular in Canada and in some regions of the USA. Namely the Northeast, Alaska and the Northern Midwest. There are a total of sixty four members in the International Ice Hockey Federation.
A landmark academic reform package has been put together by the NCAA that is expected to dramatically improve the academic results of student-athletes and holds schools and sports teams accountable for it’s implementation.
