NCAA athletic conferences
Big West conference The Big West Conference was formed in the mid 1960's and is one of the major National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I conferences. It is the only conference with all it's member institutions in one state. The
conference has won seventeen team national championships during its
history: Two in baseball, six in women's volleyball, one in men's
basketball, one in softball and one in men's soccer. Many athletes
from big West have competed on the world stage. some of the athletes
who have competed at Olympic level include Long Beach State's Tara
Cross-Battle, Tayyiba Haneef and Danielle Scott (women's indoor
volleyball), Cal State Fullerton's Leon Wood (men's basketball) and
Jenny Topping (softball). The
Big West Conference sponsors seventeen sports.
Men's sports are: swimming and diving,
soccer, cross country, basketball, tennis, golf, baseball and
track and field. Women's sports are: cross country, soccer, golf,
tennis volleyball, swimming and diving, basketball, softball and
track and field.
