Big Sky Conference

The Big Sky Conference was founded in 1963. It's member universities are located in the western United states covering Arizona, California, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Idaho and Washington; from the pacific Ocean to the Rocky Mountains. Of the eight western-most states in the USA only Nevada is not represented in the conference.

The Big Sky sponsors championships in fourteen sports, including women's and men’s cross country, outdoor and indoor track and field, tennis and basketball. In addition, there are also championships in football, and women’s volleyball, soccer and golf.The league is now one of the strongest Division I athletic conferences in the West and is a national leader in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Member Schools are:
Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana State, Northern Arizona, Montana, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, Portland State and Weber State.

The name Big Sky was taken from the 1947 novel written by the late A.B. (Bud) Guthrie of Great Falls, Montana, titled “The Big Sky.”
