great plains athletic conference region III

The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) is an affiliated conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and consists of Thirteen private, faith-based universities and colleges in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

First founded in 1969 as the Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC), the conference still retains all 6 of its charter members – Concordia, Hastings, Dana, Doane, Midland Lutheran and Nebraska Wesleyan.

In 1992, the Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference added Northwestern and became the Nebraska-Iowa Athletic Conference. 8 years later, Dakota Wesleyan, Mount Marty, Dordt and Sioux Falls became members of the conference which was renamed again to the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in 2000-2001.

Briar Cliff University joined the league in 2002-2003 and Morningside College became the Thirteenth member school starting with the 2003-2004 school year.  Both institutions are based in Sioux City, Iowa.
