Mount Vernon Nazarene University was founded in 1968., in Mount Vernon, Ohio as a co-educational liberal arts college with a solid evangelical Christian foundation and mission.

Although the majority of the student body at the university is Nazarene, over forty other Christian denominations are represented on the campus.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The school has a long winning tradition that has been established by it's athletic programs.  Cougar sports teams have grown into some of the most competitive athletic programs in the nation.  The university is a wonderful place for student-athletes to develop character, scholarship, and leadership through successful sports competition.

    Intercollegiate athletic teams represent the college in basketball, baseball, soccer, and golf for men and basketball, volleyball, soccer, and softball for women. These intercollegiate teams are affiliated with the NAIA and NCCAA and compete with teams at the national level. Also, beginning in the fall of 2006, Mount Vernon Nazarene University will start a women's and  men's cross country program.
