Junior College volleyball recruiting information

As a high school volleyball player you are probably very good, maybe the best at your school, well here's a news flash. Unless you are in the top 5%, or elite category, don't expect the volleyball coaches to come knocking on your door.

If you want to be recruited, especially at community college level, you have to make it happen. You have to contact the coaches and let them know who you are and what you have to offer their volleyball program.

JUCO volleyball is a women's only sport and is played in all three divisions but sports scholarships are only available at division I and II level.

The NJCAA allows 14 scholarships per school. These are full-ride scholarships but individual schools can offer partial grants in aid. The best players of course, players receive the best offers. There are 103 division 1 and 114 division 2 colleges that offer financial aid to volleyball players.  Each school can only offer 14 scholarships in total, unlike the NCAA they cannot offer a larger number of at a lower percentage.

High school volleyball players should consider playing club volleyball because the high school season coincides with the collegiate season, most coaches actively recruit during the club season.  A lot of college coaches search for prospective players at Junior Olympic Tournaments, national qualifiers and regional tournaments.

Junior college coaches do not have the large budgets that NCAA coaches have so they cant actively recruit or hire scouts. Many JC coaches cant allocate all of their recruiting budget each year simply because they were not approached by suitable athletes.

A good place to begin your journey to college is our Frequently Asked questions page and then have a look at the Timeline page.
