Hudson Valley Junior College serves approximately 12,000 students each semester, and employs more than 600 part and full time faculty members.
Currently the college is the 2nd largest institution of higher learning in the Capital Region of New York State, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 60 degree and certificate programs through its four schools: Business; Engineering & Industrial Technologies; Liberal Arts and Sciences and Health Sciences.

Over 80 percent of the schools students come from the immediate Capital Region, the rest come from every county of New York State and many other states and foreign countries. Hudson Valley ranks 60th (as of the 2002-03 academic year) nationally in the number of associate degrees awarded each year, and has nearly 60,000 graduates.
 
The college was funded in 1953 and is sponsored by Rensselaer County and is part of the State University of New York system. The college is governed by a 10-member Board of Trustees, which is appointed by the Governor (4), the Rensselaer County Legislature (5), and elected from among the student body (1).

The college is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education and is a member of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. All of Hudson Valley's programs are registered and approved by the New York State Department of Education. In addition, several of the academic programs are accredited by specialized national professional accrediting associations, such as the National League for Nursing, the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Hudson Valley CC boasts some of the finest sporting facilities found on any junior college campus in the country. Among the varsity sports held on the Troy grounds are: men's and women's basketball; football, hockey; women's cross country; women's tennis; men's and women's soccer; men's lacrosse; and baseball. The college also holds athletics classes on its indoor and outdoor facilities, as well as intramural competitions.
 

The college football team plays at Veteran’s Memorial Field, a grass stadium that seats approximately 500 spectators. A large, modern scoreboard and a PA system help keep fans informed during the games.
