A SHORT HISTORY AND THE BASIC RULES OF ULTIMATE FRISBEE

The first Frisbee or plastic flying disc was invented in 1948 in California Since it's invention over 200 million Frisbees have been sold all over the world. there are now more Frisbee's sold every year than basketballs, baseballs and footballs combined.

The game of Ultimate Frisbee was invented by a group of high school students at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey in the late 1960s. The first rules allowed for Twenty to Thirty players on each side. The rules also permitted players to run with the disc and included a line of scrimmage and a series of downs just like football. The rules were eventually altered so there were only 7 players on each team. Running with the Frisbee was also eliminated and the series of downs were taken out of the game. Ultimate Frisbee grew in popularity in the 1970s and is now played by 1000's of people across the USA and around the world.

2. Initiate Play -- Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective end zone line. The defense throws or pulls the disc to the offense. A regulation game has 7 players per team.

3. Scoring -- Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's end zone, the offense scores a point. Play is re started after each score.

4. Movement of the Disc -- The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a fellow teammate. Players must not run with the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has 10 seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count.

5. Change of possession -- When a pass in not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.

6. Substitutions -- Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout.

7. Non-contact -- No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact with an opposition player is made.

8. Fouls -- When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.<

9. Self-Refereeing -- Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.

10. Spirit of the Game -- Ultimate Frisbee stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic fun of the game.

The United States African American population is at greater risk than the population at large for death from cardiovascular disease. Physical activity can mitigate the factors that lead to cardiovascular disease in ethnic populations.

They found that both patterns of brisk walking lead to a decrease in diastolic blood pressure. Significant reductions in feelings of tension and anxiety were found with brisk walking of both patterns. Maximal oxygen uptake increased more with short bouts than with long, however.
