Women's field hockey continued it's popular and successful spread in the USA. . At the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games the USA won the bronze medal. From there the United States would appear at the Olympics in 1988 in Seoul and at Atlanta in 1996. The women's team also continued to qualify for the FIH (International Hockey Federation) World Cup after the 1st one in 1975 and even came away with a bronze medal at the world cup in Dublin in 1994. Men's field hockey began in the USA in 1928 with a game between the Germantown Cricket Club and the Westchester Field Hockey Club. The Field Hockey Association of America was founded and, "in 1930, the FHAA became the 14th member of FIH. The United States men's hockey team competed in their 1st Olympic games in 1932 at Los Angeles where they won the bronze in a three-team tournament. From there they went on to participate in the 1936, 1948, 1956, 1984 and 1996 Olympic Games.

Sports Scholarships Why are some individual athletes just so much better than others? I am who I am today because of many things I have experienced, and people I have known, but sports have had the foremost effect on my life. I have played baseball since I was 4, basketball since I was 8, and football since I was 11, and I have learned more from sports than anything else. |
