garrett COLLEGE

Overlooking Deep Creek Lake and the Wisp ski area in the Allegheny Mountains of western Maryland, Garrett College's 62-acre campus is surrounded by the lakes, forests, farms, and white-water rivers that are like outdoor classrooms for its Adventure Sports, and Natural Resources & Wildlife Technology, and Agriculture students.
These three programs focus on the sustainable use of our natural environment. The college also offers exceptional educational opportunities in Juvenile Justice and Business and Information Technology.

Garrett has acquired a international and national reputation for its Adventure Sports degree, which is unique in the USA, and a regional reputation for its program in Natural Resources and Wildlife Technology.

The Agriculture program features two different program paths: Agribusiness or Sustainable Agriculture. The college is also a national leader in the use of computer technology and advanced telecommunications to serve the needs of rural communities. Garrett was also the first community college in Maryland to have a dormitory for its students.

Garrett offers transfer programs leading to Associate in Arts (A.A.) degrees, career programs leading to the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.), and a variety of one-year certificate programs as well as noncredit classes.

The College's faculty is committed to high academic standards, instructional excellence, and learner-centered support for students.  A low student-faculty ratio offers students individualized attention in their studies. Garrett College graduates are well prepared for success in their chosen careers and for successful transfer to the many institutions with which Garrett holds transfer articulation agreements. Garrett students who transfer to a Maryland college usually outperform transfers from other community colleges.

Garrett College provides an athletic program for its students, utilizing the facilities of its gymnasium and baseball field, as well as the recreational resources of the area.

Known as the Lakers, College teams compete in college men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, men's baseball, and golf. Garrett is a member of the Maryland JUCO Conference, Region 20, and the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Athletes need to learn to regulate their exercise and workout intensity using subjective sensations of how hard an exercise feels.
