After the FIH conducted the 1st women's World Cup in 1975, the United States team began an impressive string of successive trips to the prestigious tournament in 1983.

The U.S. qualified for each of the ensuing World Cup tournaments which included taking out the bronze medal in Dublin in 1994.

Men’s field hockey started in the U.S.A. with the 1st official game between the Germantown Cricket Club (near Philadelphia) and the Westchester Field Hockey Club (Rye New York) in 1928. In that same year, the Field Hockey Association of America was founded, and in 1930, the FHAA became the 14th member of hockey's international federation, the Federation International de Hockey (FIH). Today, the FIH boasts over one hundred member countries. Henry Greer, regarded as the founder of men's hockey in the U.S., served as president of the FHAA from 1930 to 1959 and was also a player-coach on the 1932 United States Olympic team.

The  Men’s team competed in the Olympic Games for the !st time at the 1932 L.A. Olympic Games. The 3-team tournament saw the U.S.A. earn the bronze medal after losing to silver medalist Japan, nine to two, and gold medal winner India, twenty four to one.

The United States men's team went on to compete in other Olympic Games in 1936, 1948, 1956, 1984 and 1996.

In April of 1993, the USFHA and the FHAA, at the urging of the U.S.A. Olympic Committee, merged to form one national governing body for both men's and women’s  field hockey.

Today there are nearly fourteen thousand players, coaches, officials and fans enjoy the benefits of U.S. Field Hockey Association membership. the association has programs ranging from elite teams and futures identification to club hockey and grassroots development.

Field hockey camps stress both individual skills and team play with each participant. You get instruction in the latest stick-work techniques, scoring and shooting drills, team defense and attack tactics, goalkeeper training as well as taking part in small sided games and full field play.

Olympic Field Hockey Olympic Games Field Hockey consists of twelve women's teams and twelve men's teams. (The number of women's teams was increased from ten teams to twelve in 2005 for the 2008 Olympic Games). In 1998, former International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch announced a commitment to the sport when he stated that hockey will always have a place in the Olympic Games.

The game of field hockey is played by many people all over the world. Historically it is one of the oldest sports and the "2nd largest team sport in the world". Hockey is a sport which requires a person to have a lot of speed, skill and endurance.
