eastern arizona COLLEGE

Eastern Arizona College is a public, coeducational junior college situated in the town of Thatcher. The school offers a number associate degrees and certificates throughout the calendar (semester) year on various campus locations.
The main college campus in Thatcher is about one hundred and sixty miles from Phoenix and one hundred and twenty miles from Tucson and is sited on sixty two acres.
 
The College was chartered in 1888 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was founded long before Arizona became a state. Eastern Arizona College has a long and distinguished history as Arizona’s oldest junior college.

Throughout the institution's long history, the college has had 10 names. During forty two years of church sponsorship, it was known as the St. Joseph Stake Academy, the Latter-day Saint Academy, Gila Academy, Gila Normal College, Gila Junior College, Gila College, and back to Gila Junior College.

The college became a public institution in 1933 and the words ‘of Graham County’ were added. In 1950, to indicate the school's broad sphere of influence. The School was renamed Eastern Arizona Junior College, and in 1966 the word junior dropped the word junior in favor of Eastern Arizona College.

Eastern Arizona college offers many associate degrees and certificates of proficiency and serves students on the main campus in Thatcher and at the Greenlee location. Students may also be awarded bachelor degrees in areas of study and master’s degrees, post-degree certificates, and endorsements in 9 majors on the college's Thatcher Campus through Northern Arizona University.
