DARTON college
Darton College is a 2 year member school of the University System
of Georgia, situated in Albany (pop. one hundred thousand), the hub
of southwest Georgia, surrounded by rural cotton, peanut and pecan
farms.
The College prides itself on the success of it's students, as
measured by the School's 2 year graduates' high pass rates on state
licensing tests and the success of those students after transferring
to 4 year universities.
There are seventy three 2 year transfer and career associate
degrees. In addition the College offers distance learning courses
through local Channel nineteen telecasts, web-based instruction,
GSAMS video-conferencing, and at selected regional sites off the
main campus. Darton College is a recognized leader in state core
curriculum courses and distance learning initiatives.

Darton College's allied health and nursing programs provide
southwest Georgia with the bulk of its health professionals -
including seventy percent of all the nurses in Albany hospitals and
thirty one percent of all registered nurses in the hospitals of
thirty eight southwest Georgia counties.
Over 1/2 of the area's high-school graduates select
Darton College,
and approx. fifty percent of Darton's 4,126 students are under the
age of Twenty four. Day students tend to be younger than the more
non-traditional evening students.
Darton College has by far the largest
intercollegiate sports program in the state of Georgia. The
college is a member institution of the National Junior College
Athletic Association and competes in region XVII and also
competes for national NJCAA titles. |
