Chesapeake College

Chesapeake College was founded in 1965 as the state of Maryland's 1st regional junior college. The School was developed to serve the needs of the middle and upper Eastern Shore.

More than 25 years after The founding of Chesapeake College, the Institution continues to respond to the growing needs of Dorchester, Kent, Caroline, Queen Anne's and Talbot counties, which together comprise the college's service area.

In 1965, the Maryland General Assembly passed legislation providing for the creation of regional community colleges. That same year, 3 members each from Kent, Queen Anne's, Caroline and Talbot counties' school boards met with representatives from the Maryland State Department of Education to plan for Chesapeake College, which was chartered December 22, 1965.

Curriculum: 2 year program of study in sciences and liberal arts and career programs.
Degrees & Awards granted: Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science, Certificate and Letter of Recognition.

Number of faculty/staff: In Fall 2005, there were One hundred and forty two full and part time credit faculty. The administrative staff totals fourteen. Full-time support staff and other professionals (full-time) total One hundred and forty three.

Average class size: sixteen students.

Chesapeake College spent over 2.3 million dollars in various forms of student aid was awarded to eligible students, both full- and part-time during the 2005-2006 academic year. Extensive scholarship programs are available.
