THE RULES OF GO FISH

Go Fish is a card game for 2 to 5 players. The ace is high and the 2 is low. Go Fish is a children's card game where only the numbers on the cards are used and the suit is not important.

A standard 52-pack of cards is used. Each player is dealt 7 cards (or 5 cards if there are more than 3 players). The object of the game is to make "books" – 4 cards of the same value (e.g. four 5's or four kings). Each player asks for cards to complete their books, and if the cards are not available the player has to "go fish" (take the next card from the stock).

A player is picked to go 1st and she or he asks any player for any value card he or she already has at least one of. If the player asked has one or more of the asked for card, the player must give them to the player who asked for them.

For example, if John asks Mary for a 7 and Mary had two 7's in her hand, she would have to give john both of her sevens. If Mary does not have any 7's then she would tell john to "Go Fish." john would then draw the top card from the pile. If he picks up a 7, he would show everyone the card and then have another turn. If the card is not a 7, he would keep the card and Mary would take her turn as she is the one who said "Go Fish."

Rules vary for children's card games such as Go Fish, but in most versions of the game if the player asking for a card gets the card, he or she keeps playing until they no longer get the cards they are asking for. The game finishes when there are no cards left in the draw pile, or when a player has no cards left. The player with the most groups of 4 cards the same, wins.

Go Fish may be played with standard playing cards, or one of the special Go Fish packs that feature interesting  and sometimes funny themes.
