Playing cards four aces

ALL ABOUT EUCHRE

THE RULES OF EUCHRE

Euchre is usually a four player game or two in partnership.

A twenty four card deck is normally used. IE: nines to aces.

Some variations of the game use a  thirty two card deck by adding the 7's and 8's. British Euchre employs a twenty five card deck with the addition of a joker.

The object of the game is to be the first partnership to reach at least ten points.

VALUE OF CARDS

Aces are high and nines are low with two notable exceptions. The Jack of the trump suit becomes" right bower," and the most important or valuable card. The other Jack of the same color becomes the "left bower," and hence the 2nd most valuable card. Both bowers are part of the trump suit.

EG: If diamonds are the trump suit then the Jack of diamonds becomes the right bower, the most powerful card in the game, and the Jack of hearts becomes the left bower, the 2nd most powerful card. The third most powerful card is then the ace of diamonds followed by the king etc.

In the game of euchre partners need to sit across from each other. The dealer can be selected by a simple cut of the cards.

5 cards are dealt to each player. The remaining 4 cards are left face down in the middle of the table. The top card is then turned up, this card initially sets the trump suit.

in Euchre the cards are dealt as follows: 3 to the opponent on his left, 2 to his partner, 3 to the opponent on his right, 2to himself, 2 to the opponent on his left, 3 to his partner, 2 to the opponent on his right, then 3 to himself.

PLAYING THE GAME

Starting to the left of the dealer and continuing in a clockwise direction players bid on whether or not to use the face-up card's suit as the trump suit. listed below are the choices a player has.

  • The player to the left of the dealer may pass or say "I accept" and take the face-up card, replacing it with a card from his own hand which is face down so it cant be seen by the other players. If he accepts, no other player may bid.

  • The dealers partner may pass or say "I accept" and take the face-up card, replacing it with a card from his own hand which is face down so it cant be seen by the other players.  If he accepts, no other player may bid.
