Playing cards four aces

THE GAME OF EUCHRE

HOW TO SCORE IN EUCHRE

If no one takes up the face-up card, it gets turned face down and a 2nd bidding round commences.

In the 2nd bidding round, the1st player who names a suit has chosen trump. If no player bids, all the cards are shuffled together and the next player deals a new hand.

The partnership that chooses the trump suit in either bidding round is known as the "makers." The other partnership is known as the "defenders."

GOING ALONE

If you think you have an outstanding hand, you might want to "go alone." This means that your partner sits out, placing his cards on the table face down, and you play this hand without a partner.

Anyone may announce that they're going alone after trump is selected but before the first card is led. It's possible that two players, one from each partnership, will both choose to go alone on the same hand.

THE HANDS

The player to the left of the dealer leads 1st by playing any card from his hand.

There are some exceptions: If a player has decided to go alone, the player on that person's left has to lead first. If 2 players have chosen to go alone, the player on the team that did not choose trump must lead first.

Players must follow suit IE: play the suit of the card led if possible. If not, they may play any card.

The highest card played in the suit that is led takes the trick, unless one or more trumps were played, in which case the highest trump card takes the trick.

the next lead card is led by the player who took the last trick.

SCORING

If all 4 players take part in a hand, the makers score one point for taking 3 tricks. They score an extra two points  by taking all 5 tricks. If the makers don't get  3 tricks, they are "euchred" and the defenders then score two points.

If a maker goes alone and takes all 5 tricks, his partnership gets four points. If he takes 3 or 4tricks, his partnership gets only one point.

If a defender goes alone and takes 3 or more tricks, his partnership scores four points.

The 1st team to score ten points wins.
