Playing cards four aces

ALL ABOUT ALCALDE

A SHORT HISTORY AND THE BASIC RULES OF ALCALDE

Alcalde is a variation of the card game Brisca for 3 players, played with the forty card Spanish deck.

One player is designated as the Alcalde or mayor and the other two play as partners. The 2 players facing the Alcalde may look at each others cards.

In each game the object is to defeat the Alcalde. Every time the Alcalde wins, he deals and plays the Alcalde again in the next game. When the Alcalde loses, the player on his right becomes the Alcalde for the next game.

The Alcalde deals three cards to each of the other players, and 6 to himself, one at a time in order to his right (counter-clockwise), and 2 at a time to himself.

The remainder of the deck is placed face down in the middle of the table, this is called the stock. The top card is turned face up and placed partially underneath the stock. This card fixes the trump suit.

The object of the game is to get the highest score by wining the most point scoring tricks (tricks where there are "Briscas" (ones or threes) or, twelve's, eleven's and tens). Each trick consists of a card led by one player plus a card played by the other two players in turn, except that in each of the Alcalde's turns, he will play 2 cards. The player at the Alcalde's right makes the 1st lead, and after that the winner of each trick leads the next card.
