BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
history and sports information
Bucknell University is built on a hill that
overlooks the Susquehanna River in central Pennsylvania. the
site was chosen by the Pennsylvania Baptists who were the
founders of the college in 1846. The institution was first named the University at Lewisburg but was later renamed Bucknell in honor of William Bucknell from Philadelphia
who was one of the schools benefactors.
Bucknell offers its students a choice of
fifty three majors and sixty four minors, that include such
diverse fields as cell biology, animal behavior and East Asian studies.
The
university also provides professional programs in education, accounting and management, engineering and
music.
The college has compiled an athletic record that is
enviable both for its successes on the playing fields and courts and for the
accomplishments of student-athletes in the laboratory and the classroom.
Bucknell University is a member institution of the
National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Bucknell University competes at the NCAA DI level, and is
a member of the Patriot League.
