BRYAN COLLEGE

history and sports information

During the Scopes Evolution Trial in 1925, William Jennings Bryan expressed his desire that a college should be established in Dayton to teach the truth from a Christian perspective. After his death on July 26, 1925, a national memorial association was formed to establish such an institution in Bryan's honor.

William Jennings Bryan University (in 1958 it was first named William Jennings Bryan College, and the name was later shortened to Bryan College in 1993) was chartered in 1930 and admitted its 1st class in the fall of that year. Its stated purpose was, and is, to provide "for the higher education of women and men under auspices distinctly Christian and spiritual."

Bryan College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate and baccalaureate degrees. It is an independent, 4 year Christian liberal arts university offering Associates' and Bachelors' degrees in sixteen areas including Computer Science, Elementary Education licensure, Athletic Training, Bible, English, Exercise and Health Science, Biology, Business Administration, Christian Education, Communication Studies, History, Liberal Arts, Mathematics, Music, Psychology, and Spanish. 80% of the faculty holds earned doctoral degrees.
