Brunswick community COLLEGE
 

Brunswick Junior College is a tax-supported, nonprofit, public college that ia under the control of a board of Trustees. the school was established by the North Carolina Legislature in July 1979 under provisions of the General Statutes of North Carolina, Chapter 115-A, passed by the Legislature in 1963.
 
The institution is supervised by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges and the North Carolina Community College System. Brunswick Community College was first chartered as Brunswick Technical Institute. On May 1, 1979, the General Assembly passed a bill to allow technical institutes to change their names to technical colleges with the approval of the Board of Trustees and the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners. On October 5, 1979, the Board of Trustees, with the approval of the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners, voted unanimously to change the name of the school to Brunswick Technical College. The institution received its first accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1983. In 1988, the name of the Community college was changed to Brunswick Community College to better reflect statewide changes in community colleges.

The mission of Brunswick Community College, a public, 2 year educational institution, chartered in 1979 and centrally located in Brunswick County, North Carolina, is to provide accessible and affordable programs and services that meet the educational and cultural needs of the community and to provide opportunities for individuals to be successful.

The intercollegiate athletics  program seeks to support the mission of Brunswick Community College by providing opportunities for student-athletes to improve their lives and well being through participation in organized sports. The stated purpose of the school's athletic program is to promote and encourage in such a way that results will be consistent and supportive with the total educational purpose of the school. the college strives to provide a dynamic environment that promotes academic achievement, teamwork, competitiveness and self-discipline. the stated goal of the school is to build character and sportsmanship, which become life-long traits. The athletic programs offered are Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball.

BCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 10 and competes in the Carolinas Junior College Conference at the Division 1 level. All students are required to maintain a cumulative 2.0 grade point average in order to participate on any athletic teams.
